Although not initially popular in 1941, the Willys coupe has become an icon of the street rod community and established itself as a fixture in the drag racing “Gasser” class. The classic Willys street rod features a blown Hemi motor and fully enclosed gigantic rear tires. Today the modern street rodder can choose between fiberglass or steel to recreate his Willys coupe. The ‘41 Willys coupe was originally produced by the Willy-Overland Motors Corp and given the name of Americar. A total of 22,000 cars were produced in 1941, but only 7,000 in 1942. As the war broke out, Willys-Overland shifted production to it more famous vehicle, the Jeep.
